Climate Herald unveils a free platform for tracking local climate policy and action

As communities worldwide grapple with the pressing challenges posed by climate change, the need for transparency on how local governments are addressing climate issues is critical. This is where Climate Herald looks to make a difference.

Climate Herald’s website allows easy searching for climate actions in over 1,250 US and Canadian communities. It offers transparency on past initiatives and potential future actions, aiding residents and governments alike in fostering effective local climate change initiatives.

Brief about Climate Herald

Climate Herald, founded by ex-Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) staffer Michael Dexter, is a resource for residents and journalists, providing insights into local government climate initiatives.

In six years at the EPA, Dexter led “award-winning” climate projects and engaged with local governments. This experience inspired Climate Herald, a resource he developed to raise awareness of community efforts nationwide in tackling climate change.

Dexter says, “There is a false perception that only large cities like New York and Seattle are taking action on climate change. The reality is that communities of all sizes and in all regions of the country are engaged in meaningful climate action. There are ways for residents to engage locally to effect change on every level.”

“This project grew out of my long-standing desire for a transparent and easily-searchable database of local government climate policies.”

“Climate Herald can serve as both a starting point for residents looking to better understand how and when their community is acting on climate change and as a way for local governments to learn more about similar initiatives from other parts of the U.S. or Canada.”
