Copenhagen’s BeCause, an all-in-one hub for collecting, coordinating and communicating sustainability data, has raised $450K from well-known Danish businessmen who are now investors Carsten Mahler and Daniel Heskia.
Mahler and Heskia’s company Prolab Holding served as the conduit for the proceeds.
“We see the potential impact of BeCause’s sustainability data management hub can have on businesses, and we believe in their unique approach to applying these principles to sustainability,” mentions Carsten Mahler.
“We are excited to join Frederik and his team on this journey and provide guidance and support to help them achieve their profit with a purpose-driven goal. We have been impressed by the team,” adds Mahler.
Investors Mahler and Heskia have a history of creating profitable businesses, such as FundConnect, which, prior to being acquired, offered financial sector data management and reporting solutions and is now Europe’s preferred neutral fund data infrastructure.
Investors in this round also include Innovation Fund Denmark, Alchemist Accelerator, the Copenhagen School of Entrepreneurship, Vækstfonden, and Corde Invest.
What does BeCause offer?
BeCause, an enterprise software company, was founded in 2018 by Jonas Bruun Jacobsen and Frederik Rubens Steensgaard. It enables a quick and affordable flow of sustainability data so that travel businesses can positively influence people, the planet, and their profits.
Its AI-based sustainability hub streamlines, expedites, and lowers the cost of sustainability management in the travel and tourist sector, freeing up resources and enabling a bigger effect in the real world.
According to a statement, BeCause allows investors to keep up to speed on the newest sustainability advancements by removing 60 per cent of the resources used for repetitive, error-prone administrative processes. And this leads to a sixfold quicker return on sustainability investments.
The Danish startup claims that this improvement for a typical hotel chain provides a potential boost in bottom-line profitability of millions of dollars in the first year itself.
“Since our founding, we’ve already attracted some of the world’s leading travel and tourism brands, including Booking.com, GreenKey, and other leading travel and tourism companies, all of whom believe in our platform’s ability to transform their approach to sustainability and are committed to providing sustainable options to travellers while improving how their companies manage their sustainability efforts more efficiently,” says Frederik Rubens Steensgaard.
Currently, BeCause works with more than 11,000 companies including sustainability-certified hotels, eco-labels, certification entities like GreenKey, industry partners including UN GSTC and marketplaces including Booking.com.
How will the funds be utilised?
BeCause is able to increase its commercial and product development activities thanks to the investment, which was acquired before the startup’s formal seed round opening.
“Ineffective sustainability management is costing hotel and travel brands over $8B each year, in addition to missed revenues of at least $13B annually based on our industry estimations,” says Steensgaard.
“This early investment addresses a significant need in the industry and helps support our mission of making sustainability management simpler, faster and cheaper so that tourism companies can make a tangible impact on people, the planet and their profits.”
BeCause is also a part of the Alchemist Accelerator, one of the top ten incubators in the world for enterprise software businesses. The Alchemist Demo Day is set for May 30 and has previously drawn over 400 investors looking for high-impact investment possibilities.
