German home energy management firm tado° welcomes new CEO, Philip Beckmann

Munich-based tado°, an intelligent home energy management company, announced that it has appointed Philip Beckmann as its new CEO from August 15, 2023.

Beckmann takes over from Toon Bouten, who was instrumental in establishing tado° as the European market leader in intelligent indoor climate management. Bouten, who joined tado° in 2017, is now retiring.

Toon Bouten says, “I am grateful to have been part of an exciting journey. tado° is now the European market leader for intelligent indoor climate management, an achievement we have reached together as an outstanding team.”

Who is Philip Beckmann?

Dr Philip Beckmann joined tado° from E.ON Energie Deutschland GmbH, where he held various executive roles, including responsibility for corporate customer business and energy trading.

He started his career as a consultant at the Boston Consulting Group, advising energy companies across Europe for over 11 years. Beckmann holds a doctorate in business administration from the University of Dortmund and is a graduate economist and an MBA.

Beckmann says, “I am delighted to join tado° at such an exciting time and to shape the next phase of growth as part of the team. Efficient green energy management – this will benefit our customers and the environment alike.”

Why a new CEO?

Tado° aims to improve energy efficiency in household heating and air conditioning systems. They achieved this by selling over 3 million smart thermostats, enabling customers to cut their energy consumption by an average of 22 per cent.

In 2022, the company acquired aWATTar to introduce dynamic energy pricing, aiming to double customer benefits in energy efficiency. By integrating dynamic tariffs with their energy management solutions, customers can reduce energy costs by over a third on average.

Philip Beckmann, an experienced energy industry manager, joins the management team to drive this initiative.

Christian Deilmann, co-founder of tado° says, “By taking this new strategic step, we continue to drive forward the original mission of tado°: to reduce energy costs for households.”

“We want to minimise costs for customers not only through lower energy consumption but also with smart energy tariffs – while also helping to establish a renewable energy supply in Europe. Philip is a perfect fit to join the tado° team and help drive our development,” adds Deilmann.
