Sporting goods manufacturer ASICS announces the lightest CO2 emissions sneaker ever

Japan-based sporting goods manufacturing firm ASICS SportStyle has introduced the GEL-LYTE III CM 1.95 sneaker, which is touted as the lightest CO2 emissions sneaker available.

This eco-friendly shoe is inspired by the iconic GEL-LYTE III OG silhouette and is designed to minimise its environmental impact without compromising on quality or style.

It represents a fusion of sustainability efforts and design aesthetics, showcasing creative solutions for a more sustainable footwear option.

Carbon-negative foam

The GEL-LYTE III CM 1.95 sneaker features carbon-negative foam in its midsole and sockliner, providing comfortable cushioning while reducing its carbon footprint.

The shoe is made using recycled materials for its upper and sockliner mesh and utilises solution-dyed polyester to lessen its environmental impact.

Additionally, a minimalistic tape method is employed in its construction, offering support for daily use while minimising material waste.

Go Suzuki, Executive Officer, and Senior GM for ASICS SportStyle says, “ASICS is committed to reaching the goal of becoming net-zero emissions by 2050.”

“Not only is the GEL-LYTE III CM 1.95 sneaker the lightest CO2e emissions sneaker on market but we are also confident that it is one of the most aesthetically compelling shoes, on top of being very comfortable for users’ daily activities.”

“To accomplish our bold goal, we will continue to deliver creative solutions as exemplified in the GEL-LYTE III CM 1.95 sneaker,” adds Suzuki.

The sneaker will be released on Friday, September 22, in Cream/Glacier Grey colours. It will be available for purchase at a price of $150 through ASICS SportStyle’s online platform and select physical stores.
