US-based Milestone Carbon unveils Carbon Sequestration Hub in Midland Basin; Know more

Texas-based Milestone Carbon, an energy waste sequestration company and a subsidiary of Milestone Environmental Services, has unveiled plans to establish a CO2 sequestration hub in the southwestern Midland Basin, spanning parts of Midland and Upton counties.

This initiative aims to support industrial emitters by providing permanent geological storage for carbon dioxide emissions.

As part of the development of this hub, Milestone Carbon has acquired rights to 10,000 acres of land and pore space in Upton and Midland counties for permanent CO2 sequestration.

The company obtained a Class II injection well permit from the Texas Railroad Commission, allowing them to capture CO2 from local natural gas processors, with injection potentially starting in 2025.

Additionally, the company has applied for a Class VI injection well permit from the EPA to increase sequestration capacity and support decarbonisation efforts in the Permian Basin.

Milestone Carbon’s commitment to environmental sustainability

Milestone Carbon’s geological assessment reveals that their Midland Basin hub can store approximately 30 million metric tons of carbon dioxide, equivalent to the annual emissions from 6.5 million US passenger vehicles.

This ample storage capacity will be used by Class II and Class VI injection wells to safely sequester CO2 from multiple sources, marking a substantial step in reducing carbon emissions and promoting environmental sustainability.

The development of this hub leverages Milestone Environmental Services’ expertise in advancing sustainability within heavy industries. Their track record includes proficiency in waste sequestration, navigating complex permitting and regulations, securing land and rights leasing, and conducting subsurface analysis.

Milestone Carbon’s hub in the Midland Basin provides a cost-effective solution for heavy industries and energy producers to reduce emissions. It also generates jobs during construction and operation while attracting low-carbon technologies like hydrogen production and low-carbon power, promoting sustainability and economic development.

The company is leveraging the Permian Basin’s safe CO2 transportation and injection history to advance industrial decarbonisation. Their commitment reflects the growing interest in carbon capture and sequestration technology, showcasing their expertise in the field.

The Midland Basin CCS hub marks a significant milestone in expanding Milestone Carbon’s portfolio of sustainability projects.
