US-based Sneaker Impact’s green revolution: AI & tech to transform footwear industry’s circular economy

Florida-based Sneaker Impact, a company that aims to transform the environmental impact of the footwear industry, has announced its “groundbreaking” initiative to bring artificial intelligence (AI) and “cutting-edge” technology into sustainable production.

The company claims to be leading the way in the circular economy by innovatively dissecting and recycling sneakers, apparel, and other materials to produce new products, contributing to a more sustainable and environmentally-friendly future.

The technology!

Sneaker Impact has acquired an industrial grinder and introduced advanced AI and optical sensor technology in its AutoSort machine. This ensures precise material separation, a key step in repurposing old sneakers for new products.

Moe Hachem, the founder of Sneaker Impact says, “While in its early stages, our AI-driven programme holds the promise to reshape the way we think about product lifecycles.”

“We envision a future where shoes and apparel are repurposed into new products, reducing waste and minimising our ecological footprint.”

Partnership with industry leaders

Sneaker Impact has also announced new strategic alliances with industry leaders, such as the Running Industry Association (RIA) and the Low Impact Alliance (LIA), emphasising collaboration and innovation in sustainable running and retail.

The company also plans to exhibit at The Running Event (TRE) in Austin, Texas, for the second consecutive year in November, showcasing advancements, fostering industry connections, and educating retail, brands, and professionals.

Sneaker Impact recognises the challenges of achieving a circular economy. They aim of achieving purity levels above 95 per cent in recycling processes to create new products from shredded materials, including EVA foam, rubber, polyester, cotton, denim, and other components commonly used in footwear, clothing, and gear.

The company is focused on refining its AutoSort material dissection and separation programme as part of its mission to drive sustainability and circular economies globally. This initiative aims to benefit partners, the environment, and communities.
