Syngenta launches Agcelerators to shaping the future of agriculture

Basel-based Syngenta, a company that claims to be one of the world’s leading agriculture firms, has launched a campaign called “Agcelerators” to inspire people toward creativity, collaboration, and sustainable impact in agriculture.

This campaign aims to showcase individuals and groups transforming agriculture for sustainability. Initially, it will run in Europe, Africa, and the Middle East, focusing on speeding up the adoption of sustainable agricultural practices in these regions.

“Agcelerators are champions in the agricultural sector”

According to a press release from Syngenta, the global population is expected to reach nearly 10 billion by 2050, demanding urgent changes in the food system to ensure adequate food supply without causing environmental harm.

The World Resources Institute’s 2019 World Resources Report: Creating a Sustainable Food Future revealed that meeting this challenge will require closing three gaps:

To meet the challenge of feeding a growing global population sustainably, the World Resources Institute’s 2019 report highlights the importance of closing three key gaps:

  • A 56 per cent “food gap” in meeting future demand.
  • A nearly 600 million-hectare “land gap” for agricultural expansion.
  • An 11-gigaton “greenhouse gas mitigation gap” to align with the Paris Agreement’s emission reduction targets.

The challenge in sustainable agriculture is to strike a balance between increasing food production and protecting the environment while conserving natural resources. The Agcelerators campaign aims to accelerate the transformation of agriculture by addressing these key challenges.

Alexandra Brand, Regional Director, Syngenta Crop Protection, Europe, Africa and Middle East says, “Agcelerators are champions in the agricultural sector. They are the people developing and embracing new ideas and establishing new partnerships and ways of working. They are the driving force behind sustainable farming practices that will have a lasting impact on our planet. It is now time we hear their stories.”

The Agcelerators campaign embodies Syngenta’s commitment to addressing farming and environmental challenges. It not only showcases technologies and pioneering approaches but also aims to mobilise a collective effort involving farmers, stakeholders, and the wider community to shape a new era for agriculture.

Robert Renwick, Head of Business Sustainability, Syngenta Crop Protection, Europe, Africa and Middle East says, “Our vision for Agcelerators is to create a movement that unites stakeholders, amplifies impact, and ultimately drives the adoption of sustainable farming practices.”

“Over the coming weeks, through traditional and social media we will be demonstrating how people are helping transform agriculture through a variety of modern techniques and technologies, including data analytics, diagnostics, and biologicals. Their voices. Their stories.”

The campaign showcases people, products, and services making a positive impact through real-life stories, highlighting the tangible benefits for individuals and communities worldwide.
